Luis Buenaventura, the Head of Crypto at GCash and one of the country’s earliest cryptocurrency advocates, has been named the new President of the Blockchain Council of the Philippines (BCP), succeeding Donald Lim who will assume the role of Chairman.
A New Chapter for BCP

Buenaventura’s appointment brings a veteran voice to the Council’s leadership. His background includes co-founding BloomX, one of the first licensed crypto exchanges in the Philippines, and leading the local chapter of Yield Guild Games (YGG) during the play-to-earn boom. He currently serves as the president of GCash’s GCrypto department.
In a statement regarding his new role, Buenaventura outlined his vision for the Council, which is a focus on transparency:
“More than anything, I want to help give more visibility and transparency to everything that the Council does. Over the next 2-3 months you’ll see a lot of changes and announcements from us, both big and small.”
He also vowed to bridge the gap between the organization, the public sector, and private stakeholders:
“It is our aim as BCP to reaffirm the trust and respect of the community and the public sector, and I hope you’ll give us a chance to do that moving forward.”
Critical Role in 2026
In the Council’s official press statement, Buenaventura highlighted the dual focus of his tenure: industry partnerships and contributing to nation-building.
“The Council’s role is more critical than ever this 2026… We look forward to open collaboration with the wider blockchain community.”
Donald Lim’s Continued Role

Outgoing President Dr. Donald Patrick Lim led the BCP during its formative years.
Under his tenure, the Council successfully forged relationships with key government agencies, including the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), and spearheaded initiatives like the Philippine Block Awards.
Lim will remain on the Council and assume the role of Chairman.
