‘Dennis the Menace’ star Gloria Henry dies at 98, one day after her birthday: Reports

Gloria Henry, best known for her role in “Dennis the Menace,” has died at age 98, The Hollywood Reporter and Variety report. 

Henry died Saturday in her Los Angeles home, her daughter Erin Ellwood told THR. Henry’s daughter took to Instagram to share the news on Easter Sunday, sharing a photo of her late mother in front of a mural featuring outspread angel wings.

“She’s flying now, free of her body,” Ellwood wrote on the photo caption. “She left on a countdown 4 3 2 1 @ 3:40pm. She was such an incredible woman in so many ways. This last year with her has been beautiful and heartbreaking.”

“Goodbye Momma, I love your guts forever.” Ellwood added. 

USA TODAY has reached out to Henry’s reps for comment.

Henry turned 98 on April 2. 

“HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOMMA!” Ellwood wrote on Instagram at the time. “It’s been a rough month – we weren’t sure if she would make it to 98, but she did!”

From 1959 to 1963, Henry played the beloved TV mom Alice Mitchell on the CBS family sitcom “Dennis the Menace.” 

She also appeared in films including 1947’s “Sport of Kings,” 1948’s “Triple Threat” and 1952’s “Rancho Notorious.” 

Gloria Eileen McEniry was born in New Orleans in 1923. 

The actress is survived by daughter Erin and sons Jeffrey and Adam. Henry married Los Angeles architect Craig Ellwood in 1949 and the two divorced in 1977. Craig Ellwood died in 1992.
