Will Tiger Woods play in the 2021 Masters? No timetable for Tiger after back surgery

Tiger Woods’ potential sixth green jacket could be on the hanger come April.

Woods underwent another surgery on his back in December, leaving his status for the 2021 Masters Tournament in jeopardy. Woods played in the 2020 Masters, which was moved to November amid the coronavirus pandemic, finishing tied for 38th.

While there’s no timetable for a Woods return, Woods told CBS’ Jim Nantz during the 2020 Genesis Invitational — a tournament hosted by Woods — that he’s awaiting another MRI result, but is doing the “mundane” things required for his rehab.

Here’s the latest on Woods and his quest for another major championship appearance:

Coming off a fifth back surgery, Woods is recovering with no timetable to return to a course, but the 15-time major winner seems to be leaving the door open for a return to Augusta this April.

“God, I hope so,” Woods told Jim Nantz. “I gotta get there first. A lot of it’s based on my surgeons and my doctors and my therapists, and making sure that I do it correctly. ‘Cause this is the only back I got. I don’t have much more wiggle room there.”

Woods wouldn’t commit to returning to the course before April, but added that he’s been able to rehab since the surgery. Woods is awaiting the results of an MRI to see whether the surgery has repaired the issue in his back, at which point he’ll be able to resume more golf activities.

The surgery is the fifth on Woods’ back and the 10th surgery overall, pairing with five surgeries he’s undergone on his left knee.

Woods hasn’t appeared in a tournament since the Masters in November, which was a performance to forget.
