Fan Controlled Football league salary: How much do the players get paid?

2 min read

There’s a new startup football league called Fan Controlled Football, and yes that’s what it sounds like.

Fans control essentially every aspect of the team, from drafting the players to calling the plays on the field. Doing this allows the league to cut costs in certain areas. For example, there is a single head coach for all four teams in the league, and only one position coach for each group of players. The league also uses shared facilities, as well as trainers and medical staff.

The league is also filming its games in a television studio, rather than a fully packed stadium, which would have plenty of maintence costs.

Even though this league is able to cut financial corners in certain areas, it also isn’t exactly cheap to start up a brand new football league. So that’s why the players won’t be signing multi-million dollar contracts like you see in the NFL.

Below, we’ll break down what we know about salaries in Fan Controlled Football.

Fan Controlled Football: How much do players make?

Players in the Fan Controlled Football league make a weekly minimum of $400 to $750, plus room and board. That comes out to around $1,600 to $3,000 per month off of salary.

Since this is a six-week league, that means players will earn around $2,400 to $4,500 for their salary throughout the season. This is obviously much less than some other startup football leagues. For example, the XFL had an average salary of $55,000 and players in the Alliance of American Football were projected to make around $70,000 in their first year.

But both of those leagues were also over the course of a 10-week season.

Fan Controlled Football: How much do coaches make?

The Fan Controlled Football league has position coaches and one head coach for all four teams. While their salaries aren’t publicly available, we have somewhat of a guess for about how much they’d make. In 2019, the league posted job listings for some coaching positions.

Here’s what the description for those job postings said:

The positions will begin on April 15, 2019 and will run until August 31, 2019. Salary for the position will be $3,500 per month and Housing and Meal Plan will be provided for the duration of the contract.

However, that was two years ago and at the time the league was planning to have eight teams. So a lot has changed since then, and those numbers may not be completely accurate for today.
